ICL PROCEDURE

All the refractive errors of the eye such as short-sightedness (myopia), far-sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism can be corrected using Implantable Contact Lenses (ICLs) which lenses that a micro millimeter in thickness and are in the eye for correction of refractive errors. These Implantable Contact Lens are placed inside the eye and does not require removal frequently like the normal contact lens where the individual has to place and remove the lens on a daily basis. ICL are soft contact lens that through a small incision are inserted into the eye, it is placed in front of the natural lens of the eye. This Implantable Contact Lens provide best alternative to laser eye surgery like LASIK and Implantable Contact Lens procedures are reversible that means you can change it to previous state if at all the patient desires it. Implantable Contact Lens are preferred with patient who have corneal defects dry eyes or Keratoconus.

ICL

ICL CORRECTS:

ICL corrects refractive error that can cause blurring of vision, glare in the eyes or halos with light that is bright, double vision, strained eyes or headaches. Glasses can correct this and even a contact lens can correct this problem of refractive errors.

TEST REQUIRED BEFORE ICL:

Painless vision tests are performed thus below tests are performed to assess the extent of error and accordingly the further course of action is recommended like the type of corrective glasses required and so on.

ICL PROCEDURE IN DETAIL

Before the procedure the eyes are dilated are cleaned by draping around the eye. Eyes are then anaesthetized by local anesthetic and no general anaesthetic is required which means you will be awake during the procedure. After placing, an eyelid speculum is placed to prevent you from blinking during the procedure. During procedure the lens is folded with lens insertion device and the this lens folded or curled is then inserted through a very tiny hole which is about 3mm in diameter and the lens is positioned just behind the iris and adjust rotated into a correct position. Implantable Contact Lens can be placed into both eyes in the same day or can be placed in two different sessions or days if the consultant prefers. An hour after the procedure, the eyes are checked for vision and pressure. Medications such as steroids and antibiotic eye drops will be needed after the procedure for a couple of days. The recover time is less and most patient can start there normal activity within a week.
