Harsha Sai Eye Hospital is the 1st center in the state to offer retina procedure for macular hole and Retinal detachment with state of the art technologies and equipments.
Vitreoretinal surgery is a procedure that rectifies eye conditions which involves the vitreous fluid, retina or macula which can be age-related macular degeneration, macular hole, retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane conditions or diabetic retinopathy.
The vessels of the retina are damaged with diabetes. This can be treated with vitreoretinal surgery.
Vitreous fluid which is in the eye moves around and pulls the retina creating flash of light, and floaters occur when there are small substances in the vitreous or from the retinal tear or hemorrhage floating can be treated with vitreoretinal surgery.
With age progression the vitreous shrinks and there is a pull force on the retina which goes onto tear a hole in the macular section which distorts the vision and viteroretinal surgery can be used to correct this.
Retinal detachment or tear occurs in the retinal separation eye surface at the back of the eye, this too can be corrected from the vitreoretinal surgery.
The ophthalmologist may conduct one or more of these tests to ascertain the disease condition of the eye.
Some treatment methods available for vitreoretinal conditions include:
Abnormal blood vessels treated by shrinking them. This technique shrinks the new blood vessels which are abnormal and which bleed. May help people with diabetic retinopathy.
Using a laser the retinal tear or hole is repaired.
Evacuating and replacing the fluid in the eye. This is vitrectomy, the fluid is removed that fills the inside of the eye which is called vitreous and the air or gas or liquid is injected into the space.
Injecting medicine into the eye. In this technique medicine is injected directly into the eye. This treats wet diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration or broken vessels and which are bleeding within the eye.
Implanting a retinal prosthesis. Some conditions of eye include inheritable disease conditions with total vision loss, this implantation includes a tiny electronic chip into the retina that gets inputs from a video camera or a pair of eyeglasses. This can bring back some vision if not complete.
